Oh so spooky!
Feeling festive? Make these almond flour breadsticks (gluten & bad ingredient free!) and shape them into witch’s fingers! The nails are made from red bell pepper cut with a pairing knife into triangles. I used clean, good for you, dairy free queso (Siete brand is my favorite) and tomato sauce which I spiced up with a few added ingredients to make it a perfect marinara dipping sauce for these spooky gluten free breadsticks.
Quick and easy!
These breadsticks are made fast and easy by the use of a box mix. A CLEAN good for you box mix, with nothing but REAL ingredients! This mix is made by Simple Mills. It is gluten free, and uses almond flour. Simple Mills doesn’t use xanthan gum or any other additives, or fake lab ingredients that your body will fight back against leaving you feeling tired, and less than your best. Did you know that xanthan gum is added to most gluten free products and that it interrupts the normal, healthy bacteria that lives in our gut? This can cause all kinds of problems, like bloating and gas!

Method
Make the breadsticks
-
- Preheat oven according to box mix directions. As of this writing, Simple Mills pizza dough calls for an oven temperature of 350 degrees.
- Prepare pizza dough according to box directions
- Grease a baking sheet with a little oil.
- Section the dough in half, in half again, and again and then once more. You will have 8 balls of dough for 8 fingers.
- Roll each ball into a log, and create bumps and indendations for the knuckels.
- Place on cookie sheet. Make a little impression for where the finger nail will go.
- I used a knife to make three little slits on the knuckle area to simulate an actual finger (see photo).
- Bake the fingers for about 15 minutes.
- While the breadsticks are baking cut 8 triangles to use for the fingernails.
- After 15 minutes of baking, carefully place the bell pepper pieces where the fingernail should be. Gently press into place.
- Put fingers back in the oven to finish cooking, another 10-15 minutes.
Make the marinara sauce
-
- Empty can of plain tomato sauce into small pot.
- Bring to a simmer over medium heat and add garlic, salt, red pepper flakes and itallian seasoning.
- Simmer until reduced and thickened, about 10 minutes.
The cheese sauce above is queso. I use Siete brand. There are no additives, fake ingredients, or thickeners like xanthan gum to cause stomach problems. I highly recommend this queso!
You can use store bought marinara sauce. But I prefer to make my own. You can adjust the seasonings and sodium content this way.
