These jello shots look super fancy, but you can make them easily!

Layered jello shots are way better than not! The layering technique is not difficult. You just need to let the layers set, and make sure the next layer is not hot when adding it.

Jello shot cups…

These can be found in the grocery store. I usually find them by the plastic straws. You could use anything really, I just like the portability of these little cups with lids, pop them into your cooler and you are all set for a fantastic picnic!

Get creative!

Change up the colors for different holidays! Click “view gallery” on the photo above to see red white and blue layers, for Fourth of July! I have included instructions on how to make two layers but if you want more colors, just repeat the steps.

Don’t want the alcohol? No problem!

The instructions below give you the option to use juice, instead of alcohol, these will turn out awesome either way!

Description

Green jello is used to get the base green layer. The opaque green layer is made by using opaque white food coloring & green food coloring. You can also use coconut milk to get the same effect.

You Need

For Layer #1

For Layer #2 (Juice Version)

For Layer #2 (Food Color Version, Omit if Using Juice Version)

Method

Make Layer #1

    • Mix jello with boiling water until dissolved.

    • Add cold water and alcohol.

    • Let cool for about 5-10
      minutes. Do not let set.

    • You want the mixture to cool slightly so you are not melting the plastic you are pouring it into.

    • Fill each cup just shy of halfway, or less if doing 3 layers!

    • Put in the refrigerator until fully set at least 3 hours.

Make Layer #2 (Juice Version)

    • "Bloom" gelatin: sprinkle gelatin over juice. Let sit for 2 minutes until saturated.Ā

    • Mix bloomed gelatin with boiling water until dissolved.

    • Add alcohol (or leave out and increase juice in step 1 to 1 cup). Mix.

    • Let cool for about 5-10 minutes. Do not let set.

    • Carefully and slowly pour on top of first layer. If colors begin to bleed, this is because the new layer is not cooled enough, and the initial layer has not set enough.

    • Let set for a few hours.

For Layer #2 (Food Color Version, Omit if Using Juice Version)

    • "Bloom" gelatin: sprinkle gelatin over 1 cup cold water. Let sit for 2 minutes until saturated.Ā

    • Boil 1/2 cup water, add 1/4 cup sugar. Mix well until dissolved. Do not over boil!

    • Mix sugar water mixture with bloomed gelatin.

    • Add alcohol.

    • Add a few drops of flavoring oil, if using.

    • Let cool for about 5-10 minutes. Do not let set.

    • Carefully and slowly pour on top of first layer. If colors begin to bleed, this is because the new layer is not cooled enough, and the initial layer has not set enough.

    • Let set for a few hours.

Note

It's fun to experiment with different juice & alcohol combinations. If you are alcohol free, these are just as fun! Just use juice!
